Who fixes my problem?
For problems with a staff laptop, please submit a ticket on the AISD Help tile in the portal.
For student devices, please follow the directions below. If you need assistance, please send Hively a Google Chat message. I'm happy to help!
Responsible Device Use to review regularly with students:
Carry the device with 2 hands and the lid CLOSED.
Chromebooks only belong on the desk, table, or in the charging cart. No Chromebooks on the floor or left in tote bags.
No food or water bottles while using the Chromebook.
No added stickers on the Chromebook, and name stickers/bar codes must be left alone.
Chromebooks belong to the school district, and using them is a privilege, not a right.
Physical Damage (broken screen, casing, keyboard, etc.):
Complete an incident report on the back of the library pass and tape it to the front of the Chromebook. Have the student deliver the device to the library.
Chromebook not charging:
Try a different charger to determine if the charger or device isn't working. If the original charger is broken, complete an incident report on the back of the library pass and send it to the library for a replacement charger. If the device still doesn't charge, complete the incident report on the back of the library pass, tape it to the device, and drop it off in the library.
Student is unable to log in or needs a new QR code:
Go to the teacher portal and click the down arrow next to the word dashboard.
Click on people. Search for the student's name.
Click the red actions button.
Click on unlock > yes.
To print a QR code for a specific student, click the red actions button > generate QR code > QR login option > view.
To print a class set of QR codes, contact Hively.
Screen is flipped upside down or sideways:
Press ctl + shift + refresh (key that looks like a circle with an arrow)
Chromebook is loading slowly:
First, power down the device completely (do not just put it to sleep). Press and hold the power button on the side until the light on the button turns off. Wait one minute and then power it back on. This allows updates to run and frequently fixes the problem.
If this doesn't work, you can powerwash the device by following these steps:
Powerwash directions (if this doesn't work for you, send the device to the library -- do NOT submit an AISD Help ticket)
After powerwashing, re-enroll the device (again, if this doesn't work for you, send the device to the library -- do NOT submit an AISD Help ticket)
If you are uncomfortable with powerwashing, just send the device to Hively with an incident report form, and I'll be happy to assist you!
Can I use this app or extension?
