Here are a few ideas for goals that will help develop your leadership skills and support your membership in NJHS. This is also a great list of goals for those who are interested in pursuing NJHS membership.
We suggest that you keep a leadership/service diary to document your goals and record your reflections throughout the year. Then, you can submit that information with your Student Information & Activity Form at the end of the year.
Consider a run for an office in Student Council (You don’t have to win! Just take a positive risk and run! Just make sure you're willing to do the work if you are elected.)
Participate in two or more of our NJHS KAB clean ups. (Schedule available in the fall.)
Participate in two or more Courtyard Workdays. (Check with Ms. Warner.)
Volunteer to help with New Student Orientation.
Volunteer to help with ARS Showcase
Volunteer to help with the AISD Magnet Fair
Sign up to speak at a school board meeting on a topic you are passionate about for your school.
Hold a leadership position in a Fine Art/extra-curricular group/team/club (i.e. section leader, captain, officer)
Create and manage an after school club around a topic you love. (This must be a project that you sustain for a meaningful period of time. No one meeting clubs.)
Host an event for a charity of your choice. (Speak to Rutz or Howk for requirements.)
Volunteer at the Texas Teen Book Festival in the fall or the Five Book Dive Middle School Festival in the spring.
Write letters to your area representatives about issues important to you.
Write letters to the editor of your school or local newspaper.
Create and publish a zine about something you love.
Organize a clean-up for your neighborhood.
Organize a tutoring service for elementary students who live near you.
Organize and host story time for elementary students who live near you.
