Participants will be invited to reflect on experiences of empathy in their own lives and classrooms as they are introduced to Service-Learning resources that can begin incorporating in their everyday teaching.
PRESENTERS: Sabryna Groves, Service-Learning Coordinator; Carrie Kaplan, Associate Professor
DESCRIPTION: Essential resources such as stable housing, food, health care, transportation, and legal support determine the experience of students, faculty and staff at ACC, as well as whether we are successful in accomplishing academic and career goals. Join us as we share recent information about the financial well-being of ACC students, how to access college and community resources, what's in the works and might soon be possible. This will be an informal participatory session- we want to hear from you!
PRESENTERS: Paula McDermott, Director of Social Support Resource Development (SSRD); Alyssa Cormier, Student Affairs Graduate Intern (SSRD)
DESCRIPTION: This presentation will focus on the experiences of underprepared and/or underrepresented students, based on conducted research and information derived from teaching experience, regarding their expectations, positive/negative experiences, and recommendations of Learning Labs to help them persist on their academic journey. The participants will view a PowerPoint that parallels the content being presented by the speaker and will also be asked to share their experiences/suggestions to further build a connection between the students and the academic support services.
