School-Based Mental Health
About Gateway to Success
In 2008, the Alhambra Unified School District (AUSD) received a Department of Health and Human Services’ Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) grant. This grant allowed for the creation of a collaborative and cohesive infrastructure for providing alcohol and drug, safety, mental health, and early education services to students in the district. Through collaborations with the Alhambra Police Department and other community agencies and partners, AUSD established a sustainable infrastructure that maximizes resources and utilizes current staff to provide services to all students in the district.
The vision of the Gateway to Success (GTS) is to provide comprehensive prevention and intervention services for the district as a whole, and to overcome many of the obstacles often faced by families who wish to access mental health support by bringing such programs to the schools.
Can my student receive Gateway to Success (GTS) Mental Health services?
Your student may qualify for GTS Mental Health services if he/she is experiencing challenges that impact not only his/her ability to be successful at school academically, but also his/her ability to get along with peers, family members, and adults. Such challenges can include:
Feeling anxious and/or depressed to the point that its more than a feeling and impacts a student's appetite, sleep, and concentration
Unpleasant thoughts and feelings that negatively impact student's peer relationships and relationships with adults inside and outside the classroom. This can include thoughts of self-harm and suicide.
Low grades, poor attendance, and/or poor relationships as a result of a potential undiagnosed mental health diagnosis
Sudden changes in behavior
To start the process of getting connected to therapy for your student, please complete the online referral form, complete the consent form, and turn the consent form into the front office.
