About your Gateway Counselor

Hi, my name is Dr. Lam. Welcome to the Repetto Elementary Gateway to Success Page! As an elementary school counselor, my focus is to support students and teachers in connecting education to the social and emotional development of students and creating an environment where students can flourish academically.

Prior to becoming an Elementary School Counselor, I worked as a Mental Health Therapist for 7 years and a Program Director for 8 years. I'm trained in Evidenced Based Practices, such as, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,  Managing and Adapting Practice, and Seeking Safety.

I decided to change my career to school counseling because as a mother of three, I had learned the value and importance of social and emotional learning. Emotional learning involves helping students develop self-understanding, self-regulation, impulse control, the ability to delay gratification, anger management, stress reduction, etc. Social learning helps students develop an ability to adopt a different perspective, identify emotions in others, feel empathy, listen, communicate effectively, and simply get along with others.

By supporting students in managing their emotions, setting and achieving positive goals, feeling and showing empathy for others, nurturing positive relationships, and making responsible decisions we are able to provide students with the abilities required to succeed in life, both within their school and beyond.  It is my hope that the Gateway to Success program will equip students at Repetto Elementary to be successful and effective in managing the challenges that come their way as they grow and develop.

Hello Repetto Families!

I’m excited to join Repetto School Community as Mental Health Counselor this school year. I’ve been with the Alhambra Unified School District for 7 years, during this time, I’ve worked at Monterey Highlands Elementary, San Gabriel High School, Granada Elementary. This school year, I will be at Repetto and Ynez Elementary Schools. As a school counselor, I’m a supporter and advocate for social emotional development and a well-rounded meaningful educational experience for our children. I understand that it really takes a village to raise children in this current time. I look forward to being your partner to foster a meaningful education experience for our students and empower students with the ability to make well-informed decisions for their educational journey.

I will be collaborating with Dr. Lam for our school mental health needs and services. My schedule at Repetto School will be Tuesdays, Fridays, and alternating Wednesdays. Please feel free to reach out to me for any ideas and/or needs.

Road Runners Rock!

about Your Gateway Interns

Hi! My name is Moleeta Hong and I am excited to join Repetto Elementary School as a School Counseling PPS Intern for the 2023-2024 school year. I am currently a School Counseling MA Candidate (PPS & CWA) at Loyola Marymount University. With a Bachelor’s in Child and Adolescent Development with a Community Focus from San Jose State University, I have professional experience working with youth from 6 months to 24 years old in various community-based and educational settings. My personal mission is to empower youth to explore their limitless potential! I will be on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays working under the supervision of Dr. Lam.

Hello, Repetto Family! My name is Jonathan Silberman and I am a School Counseling/PPS intern who will be on site this year, working under the direction of Dr. Lam. I am currently a School Counseling MS and PPS candidate at Cal State Long Beach, graduating in Spring 2024. I’m a native of Los Angeles who attended LA’s public schools and earned a BA in Ethnomusicology from UCLA.

Growing up, I was surrounded by people from diverse cultural backgrounds and I developed a love for global arts and cultures from an early age. Earlier in my adult life, I built a small business career before l found the calling to become a School Counselor. I have gained experience working with children and advocating for them through my volunteer work with many local organizations, including foster youth as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and multicultural arts education and programming through Art in the Park, a community-based arts nonprofit in Northeast LA.

I believe that every student deserves the opportunity to realize their unique potential, and I am passionate about helping students to be successful and become the best version of themselves. I am excited to join your community, and to work together in supporting Repetto’s students. I’ll be here on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the school year, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Hi, my name is Rita Karapetian and I am very excited to join the Repetto Family as a clinical intern. I will be working under Dr. Lam to provide individual and group clinical services to the kiddos here at the elementary school. I will also be doing weekly check-ins with students who request them in order to maintain open and accepted communication regarding mental health.

I hope to help and make a difference here at the school and in the lives of the students I come across. Working with children and expanding their knowledge on mental health is my main priority and I am very excited to be doing so here.
