AUSD Adventures strives to cultivate a safe space where individuals make connections, flourish as learners, and have fun. Each Adventures site team consists of a Youth Specialist and Program Leaders, providing a 10:1 ratio for TK/K and 20:1 student-to-staff ratio in all other grades. Youth Specialists collaborate with school administrators and staff to coordinate enrichment programs that align to the instructional day.
AUSD Adventures Expanded Learning Program Plan (board approved May 2025)
Adventures Extended Day and Summer Adventures are the current AUSD expanded learning program offerings. Similar in offerings, both programs are part of a comprehensive nine-hour day offered at all thirteen elementary schools free-of-charge to participants as it is funded through a combination of the California Department of Education’s After School Education and Safety (ASES) grant, Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) apportionment, and donations.
Adventures offers participants an opportunity to participate in diverse educational enrichment courses and activities that foster leadership and creativity in a safe space beyond school hours. Enrichment courses are curated based on participant interests, changing each session/trimester at minimum to offer a broad range of experiences. Sample courses might include: Digital Media & Design, Computer Science & Engineering, Visual & Performing Arts, and Leadership. In addition to educational enrichment, nutritious snacks, homework support and physical or extension activities are available each program day.
Unduplicated TK-6th grade pupils in classroom-based AUSD programs during enrollment periods are offered and granted access to Adventures programs. “Unduplicated pupil” means a pupil enrolled in a school district or a charter school classroom-based instructional program who is either classified as an English learner, eligible for a free or reduced-price meal through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), or is a homeless or foster youth. As space permits, a lottery is conducted for others requesting to participate.
Our office is open Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm during the school year with limited days during summer months.
For site-specific program information, Youth Specialists can be reached by email or phone, Monday-Friday between 1pm-6pm during the school year.
