Absences: New this year, if your child is absent, you will receive an email from the District at 5:00 pm with a Google Form to complete. Please be sure to fill out this form so we can clear the absence and begin independent study, if requested
A: Kindly inform jgarcia@ausd.net and cbarrett@ausd.net in the office and Mrs. Smith in advance if your child will be absent, and be sure to include the exact dates of the absence.
Families participating in independent study will need to upload photos or files of the completed work into a Google Form. If your child is absent for more than 10 days, they will complete their work online through the Rancho Learning Center. More details will be provided in the email you receive if your child is absent.
A: To minimize disruptions during class instruction, we kindly request that you refrain from dropping off items during school hours. However, if you need to make a drop-off, please put the item(s) on the bench in the office and email Mrs. Smith.
If your child forgets their lunch, they can receive a school lunch instead.
A: To lessen screen time outside of school and manage internet safety concerns, students will store their Chromebooks in the classroom. Keeping them fully charged in the classroom also ensures that these district-owned devices are ready for use. Please ensure the charger is kept in a secure location at home, as students may occasionally bring them home.
A: Assignments will be balanced between digital and paper formats to foster technology confidence and readiness for modern careers, emphasizing the importance of digital skills. While online tasks are included to develop these skills, I also advocate for paper assignments to provide visual relief and promote fine motor skill development.
A: Third grade marks the start of SBA testing. Please refrain from scheduling trips or doctor appointments during the testing window, especially in May. Information on how to access practice tests will be shared with you in March and April, as it gets closer to the testing dates.
In addition, encouraging your child to practice typing using programs such as Type Club is an excellent method to help them feel at ease with the typing section of the assessment.
Q: When will families receive the SBA scores?
SBA scores are typically released in summer. Schools and districts get them first, and families usually receive them by mail or through the parent portal, PowerSchool before the new school year starts. You can start checking Power School in late June.
