I believe my planning was in-depth, and the final slides presentation looked professional and communicated my project's ethos effectively.
In regard to the pitch in front of my peers and lecturers, I believe that my presentation skills were adequate, especially compared to how I imagined it would go. I relayed everything that I was hoping to, and answered questions to the best of my ability.
For the next time I have to present for an audience, I will write cue cards and notes, to avoid reading from the slides verbatim. I think this would make the presentation more impactful and memorable.
I truly appreciate the feedback my peers and tutor gave me, as it has encouraged me to continue my project with confidence that my concept is understood. Furthermore, this response has solidified to me that my ideas, theme, imagery, and overall project are valued by others.
Going forward, I will definitely experiment with editing styles in my post-production. I will also look into Henri Cartier-Bresson, and we have already watched the Finding Vivian Maier documentary at the end of the session. From seeing a range of her work, I appreciate the significance of her place in street photography, but I do not wish to research her further. Thematically, I feel that my work does not completely align with hers; though I am glad to have learnt more about Maier and her story.
During the post-pitch questions, I received positive reinforcement when I proposed my idea to split my photo book into day vs night, instead of cities. I think this will be a more successful outcome, because I was concerned that I would have less content for certain cities and my book would feel imbalanced.
Now, I can solely focus on selecting my best images without worry of having "too many" in a single city. In my final outcome, I aim to label each image with the city, and possibly sequence cities together.
Occurring about a month before the Final Major Project deadline, this interim assessment is done to aid us in knowing where we can improve.
I found the encouraging and reassuring feedback to be very helpful for my mental going forward into the last stage of the project. The pressure of all the deadlines has been difficult for me, so this positivity about my work was much needed and appreciated.
It has given me clear and useful parameters to work towards, going into the final section of my project.
Now, I am planning to: document my research into ethical street photography practice, evaluate my primary research, continue to evaluate my shoots, and culminate my project in a final practical outcome.
Works in Progress
Peer Feedback I Received
From the work in progress crit, I received positive encouragement that has boosted the confidence I have in my project and final images. I wholeheartedly appreciate the constructive feedback from my peers, as I greatly value input from other developing photographers.
Upon reflecting, I believe all the comments on my work were respectful and kind; I found the overall crit experience to be incredibly useful in giving guidance and clarity to my project as we approach the end of the FMP.
I will continue to use vignettes in my work and develop my masking techniques to further emphasise my subjects.
My Peer Feedback to Classmates
This is my assigned peer review I conducted on one of my classmate's work that I was less familiar with.
I appreciated this exercise as I got to experience someone else's workbook processes, which has helped me to know where I can improve. I always enjoy seeing the photography produced by my class, with this being an even more insightful, intimate look into a fellow student's work that I usually do not get to see.
I believe my assessment was unbiased and fair, though I did find it difficult to construct critical comments. This was especially hard for me because I felt that their workbook was organised and in-depth, with no obvious improvements needed. Eventually, I considered that they could dedicate a specific space to their work for the Summer Show.
Peer Review of Me
This is the review of my workbook I got from my peer. Reflecting on the feedback, I am pleased with the positive comments afforded to me. It is reassuring that my peer had no issue navigating my site or finding key work, as this can indicate the experience my examiner will have.
I agree that I could add screenshots of my editing dials and settings, as it would be good for conveying my exact process to the viewer. However, after assessing my priorities, this is not at the top of the list as it is only an additional bonus to my production. I think it is best for me to focus my efforts on essential components of my workbook that are lacking instead, as we are inches from the deadline.
Overall, I am grateful to my peer for the feedback on my work, with this excercise as whole being very helpful.
