AUHSD Induction is housed in the Education Division under the Assistant Superintendent of Education, along with the Chief Academic Officer, and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Day to day procedures and activities are implemented by the Director of CVA and Innovative Programs. Whenever possible, Candidates are matched with a Mentor, at or near their site, within the first 30 days of employment.
Mentors attend a training and are presented with information on how to support their Candidates with Induction requirements and the cycle of inquiry with the ILP . This is provided prior to the orientation and Mentors begin meeting with their candidates.
The orientation provides Candidates and Mentors with an overview of Induction goals, program sequence and expectations.
Induction Staff along with Mentors will monitor the progress of all Candidates’ work by examining the teachers’ portfolios regularly to confirm that meetings between Mentors and Induction Candidates are taking place regularly and that work is progressing accordingly. Comments and input are posted on individual portfolio pages to provide assistance. Emails will be sent to both Mentors and Candidates when necessary, in order to ensure that satisfactory progress is being made. Mentors will also monitor their Candidates' progress in order to guarantee that candidates are making sufficient advances and notify Induction staff for support whenever necessary. Should a candidate be refused a Verification of Completion form he/she can fill out an Intent to Appeal. This can be found in Induction Forms.
