These programs are designed to provide students with extensive Cosmetology or Barbering training and preparation, in order to take the California State Board exam to become a licensed Cosmetologist or Barber. Once licensed, a person can immediately begin working in a salon or shop. Cosmetology training is 1600 hours, and focuses on hair, skin, and nails. Barbering training is 1500 hours, and focuses on hair and skin. These courses are offered at the Shasta School of Cosmetology (SSC) campus in Redding. *Students interested in the Cosmetology or Barbering program should contact their high school Career Center or guidance counselor for specific information on how and when to apply.
