About the Hear-T Lab

The Hear-T lab aims to investigate effective strategies for managing tinnitus and hyperacusis and developing valid and reliable hearing questionnaires. Our current projects involve developing and assessing the feasibility of remote counseling and sound therapy interventions for patients with tinnitus and hyperacusis. Additionally, the lab collaborates with researchers around the world and contributes annually to the International Conference on Management of the Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Patient held at the University of Iowa, where Dr. Perreau is a speaker and planning committee member.

The Hear-T laboratory is fully equipped with an audiometer and access to a sound treated booth, sound measurement equipment, speech perception tests, a hearing aid analyzer, and computer equipment including graphing and statistical software. The laboratory also has hearing devices and materials for tinnitus and hyperacusis assessment and management.

The Hear-T (Hearing + Tinnitus) Lab is housed in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Augustana College in Brodahl Hall.

Participation

Currently, we are recruiting adults ages 18 and older to participate in our hyperacusis study.

Our projects typically require questionnaires, watching videos, and other activities.

From 2012-2024, Dr. Perreau mentored more than 80 senior inquiry projects with nearly 20 as data-driven projects at Augustana College in the Communication Sciences and Disorders department. In addition to the senior inquiry project, Dr. Perreau has also mentored 21 research interns (one to four per year). The student research experience in the Hear-T laboratory led by Dr. Perreau has resulted in 16 presentations with students at state, regional, or national audiology conferences, 8 co-authored peer-reviewed articles with students published in audiology journals, and 2 co-authored book chapters.
