In this course, students focus on analyzing the significance of the family; nurturing human development in the family throughout the life span; analyzing identifying factors that build and maintain healthy family relationships; developing communication patterns that enhance family relationships; dealing effectively with family stressors and conflicts; managing work and family roles and responsibilities; analyzing social forces and conditions that influence families across the life span; and cultivating the safety and well-being of the family. Introduction to Culinary Arts students investigate food safety and sanitation, culinary preparation foundations, basic culinary skills, diverse cuisines, service styles, nutrition and menu development, and the economics of food. Students also explore postsecondary education options and career opportunities within the food service industry.

In this class, students explore different types of early childhood education programs and delivery models, develop safe and healthy learning environments for children, and identify the ages and stages of child development and developmentally appropriate practices that support child development from birth through age 12. Students explore balancing work and family, professionalism, and education and training requirements for multiple early childhood education career pathways during the course. Students will also complete multiple observations in an early childhood education setting.

Students explore career options and professional practices in interior design. Students acquire skills in the design of interior spaces, including selection and application of furnishings, fixtures, equipment, and textiles. Students apply the elements and principles of design, think critically, solve problems, and explore entrepreneurship opportunities within the interior design profession.

Travel through the world of the hospitality industry which includes food and beverage services, lodging, travel and tourism, and the recreation industry. In this project based learning course, students will learn about the history of the industry, restaurants, hotels and resorts, traveling to various destinations. Time will also be spent exploring cruise ships, the many wonders of the world, theme parks, careers in the industry, and more.

Students develop competencies in identifying individual aptitudes in relation to effective leadership skills, understanding organizational behavior, using effective communication in the workplace, handling human resources and organizational problems, supervising and training employees, resolving conflict, and planning for the future.
