• Is an English Language Learner (ELL) AKA Multi Lingual Student (ML)

• Possess academic potential

• Possess college potential with support from the AVID Excel Elective in middle school and the AVID Elective in high school

Think of AVID Excel as a "booster" program for middle school students who are talented and motivated but are still working on mastering academic English.

While many students can speak English well with their friends, "academic English" is the more formal language used in textbooks, science labs, and college essays. AVID Excel is a special elective class (taken during the school day) designed to help students bridge that gap quickly so they can jump into honors and AP classes by the time they hit high school.

Fast-Track to College

The program is designed to move students out of ML classes faster. It prepares them to enter the "regular" AVID program in high school, which has a proven track record of getting students into four-year universities.
