Our 8th Grade AVID Scholars got the sense of what it looks and feels like to be a student at the University of Washington in Seattle!

Scholars got the opportunity to get a taste of the career life as they took on roles of people from town. Here they were assigned real-life jobs and took part in the economic happenings of the town.
March 2024
Scholars had the opportunity to visit their closest college here in Auburn. While there, they got to tour the campus including campus housing to really see what it would be like to live at school. They also learned about financial aid and classes available to them.
November 2023
Our 8th grade AVID Scholars spent the morning with AVID Seniors at AHS (our first AVID group to graduate!). Students built community by playing some games, took place in small groups to ask questions about HS and beyond, then shadowed the seniors during their 2nd and 3rd period classes.
January 2024
Our newest AVID Scholars took part in their first post-secondary education trip by heading to Renton's Clover Park Technical College. Here they learned about options for technical careers!

Our oldest 8th Grade Scholars traveled to RTC to learn about the many options for a post-secondary education around specific careers. From medicine, automotive, food services, to architecture- students got to see all the choices.
2022-2023
In May, our 8th Graders took the exculsive trip to UW where they were mesmorized by the campus and were able to see themselves as future college students. Also, GO COUGS!
In May, our newest AVID Scholars visited their first University. Here they learned about what it takes to get into school, how to pay for it, and opportunities that exist for them once there!
AVID Scholars got to cap off their school year with a visit to the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. Here they learned about areas of study and what life could be like after school while continuing their education at UPS.
Our newest AVID Scholars got to check out all the options when it comes to Technical colleges, even getting the opportunity to see a slice of a brain from the histology teacher!
Our 8th graders have been busy checking out some potential secondary schools before they head off to High School. They took a trip to TCC to check out all the offerings, and even got in a little fun time at the R&R area!
Our second year AVID Scholars took a trip to Puyallup where they visited Pierce College. Here they learned of the many different areas of study they could engage in including trade jobs to opportunities to earn bachelors degrees.
Our new AVID Scholars got to go on their first college visit by heading up the hill to Green River College. Here they learned about opportunities to pay for college and what fields of study are available to them- right here in Auburn!
In December , our 7th Grade AVID Scholars visited Northwest College of Art + Design. Here students learned the various career options available after attending this school. They also learned ways to pay for their college. Students heard from both admissions officers, professors, and students.
In November, our 8th Grade AVID Scholars visited Renton Tenichal College where they learned about various technical training options available after high school. They also learned about opportunities for financial aid available to support their academic aspirations!
2021-2022
In June, our 8th Grade AVID Scholars traveled to Seattle to visit the University of Washington where they took part in a college admissions information session and were able to tour the beautiful campus, on a absolutely beautiful day!
In April, AVID Scholars got to visit Green River College in Auburn, WA to learn more about potential paths they can take high school to further their education. During the day students visit several areas of campus, learned about ways to pay for college, different areas of focus, and got to see what it is like to eat in student union building.
On March 13, AVID Scholars got to hear about Mayor Nancy Backus road to becoming a mayor, her vision for the future and what it takes to lead a city like ours.
December 2019
AVID Scholars visited Green River College and learned about the different post-high school options to continue their education. Scholars were given opportunities to learn more about running start and learned the important fact that if they have Level 3 or 4 on their SBA Reading, they will automatically qualify for the program. Scholars also learned about applying for federal aid. While visiting the campus Scholars were introduced to the various services available to them at GRC including the center for equity, student services and more. Scholars visited a ceramics class the library, a typical classrooms and other important places around campus. While leaving, our AVID Elective Teacher Chuck Chew was told by a GRC employee that this group was one of the best they've received. Our Scholars are deepening their understanding of what it means to be a Scholar and the options available to them once they graduate high school.
March 2020
While on the tour they walked through the cafeteria and various study locations. Scholars also got to visit the impressive libraries of the University. Scholars also heard from the Gear UP Specialists who provided students with a great deal of information on how they can help support their academic futures.
Lastly, Scholars got to visit the Clean Energy Institute where they learned about research the University is conducting around the use of affordable and reliable solar equipment.
