Auburn School District Continuous Learning 2020

Although schools are closed and not providing traditional in-person instruction, education in the Auburn School District is continuing. This site is designed to provide guidance and resources to Auburn School District staff and community regarding the development and implementation of our Continuous Learning Plans to meet the immediate need of supporting learning outside of normal practices.

Auburn School District staff are committed to the following guiding principles:

  • Provide continuous learning to move forward- Key standards have been identified for each grade level and subject to be taught by the end of the school year. IEP goals and priority special education focus will be determined by IEP teams for students with disabilities. Teachers will provide instruction using key standards and district instructional tools to engage students in learning. Teachers will assess student progress and help them set goals to move forward. Weekly assignments, projects, video check-ins, etc... are all ways to assess learning.

  • Communicate student progress in their learning. This may be a difficult time for families during the closure, it is important to acknowledge that student progress may be limited in some circumstances. For students able to progress in learning, and earn grades/credit, progress will be reported as appropriate for each student program. Data on progress will also be maintained by special educators.

  • Stay connected - Teachers will take Connected-attendance weekly. (All teachers will complete attendance only on Fridays by 3:00pm). Teachers will mark students as“Not Connected” to show when there has been no form of contact with the student during that week.

Connections could include:

        • The student participated in learning activities

        • The student joined a virtual class on Google Meet

        • The student replied to a discussion board post in Google Classroom

        • The student collaborated on a Google doc

        • The student submitted an assignment

        • The student connected by phone

        • The student simply responded to an email

        • The family supported the student interaction by one of the above means.

  • Follow class times and schedules - Teachers will follow these recommendations for time spent providing instruction per class during school closures. Our guidelines for time each day are as follows:

        • PreK: 30 minutes

        • Grades K-1: 45 minutes

        • Grades 2-3: 60 minutes

        • Grades 4-5: 90 minutes

        • Grades 6-12: 20-30 minutes per teacher (3 hours max in a day; no classes meeting at the same time)

To accommodate people with disabilities, as well as English Learners and other special populations, auxillary aides and services will be provided and reasonable modifications will be made. Please work with your IEP case manager and your child's teacher to determine what specific supports can be made at this time.
