Advanced Placement Human Geography is a year long course designed to meet or exceed the experience of an introductory one-semester college Human Geography course. The purpose of the course is to utilize geographic processes to systematically study and comprehend spatial patterns that are evident in the world in which we live. This course replaces freshman World Studies for one semester, and students will earn an additional social studies elective half-credit. The purpose of AP HuG is to introduce students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, the use of, and alteration of Earth’s surface. Students employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine human social organization and its environmental consequences. They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their science and practice.
