Welcome to my classroom site! My name is Sheena LeMay-Nelssen. You can call me Ms L, Ms LeMay-Nelssen, Ms LeMay. The best way to reach me is through email at slemaynelssen@aubreyisd.net.
My background: I have a bachelor's degree in integrated studies with a concentration in photography from Emporia State University and a bachelor's degree in mass media with an emphasis in public relations from Washburn University. I have an alternative certification in teaching in journalism and art. I've taught preschool, dance, sewing, was a substitute for 2 months, a paraprofessional for 1 year at McNabb Middle School and started teaching in 2023-2024. Before teaching I was a journalist, inventory control manager, photographer and owned 2 small businesses.
My art/principles of av background: I took dance lessons from age 2 to 20, specialized in special effects make up in college, photographer for multiple years, bachelor's degree in photography and bachelor's degree in public relations, social media manager/photographer for a NAHL hockey team, journalist for 4 years including copy editor and managing editor, small business owner, involved in theater both on stage and behind in high school and college, choir elementary through high school including show choir that performed in Branson, MO. I've been interested in art all of my life. My mom taught me to sew and craft at a young age, my dad did woodworking, rope braiding and leather work and my grandma Lupe taught me to paint. I took art classes through school and briefly majored in art in college. Mixed media is my favorite type of art because I love to combine more than one type of art together.
My favorite artists are Frida Kahlo, Jean Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol. Favorite photographers are Gordan Parks and Dorothea Lange.
The biggest things we always need are tissues, paper towels, Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer. I will rarely ask for students to bring anything not on the school list but will communicate if something is needed. I appreciate anything donated because it helps keep our classroom healthy and keeps us working.
