The Syrian Firefly: A safe haven for vulnerable children, offering security, friendship, and engaging learning in a supportive environment
A total of 178 children in Burj Islam participated in the Applied Science Program, including 85 children in Meccano activities and 93 children in electricity activities.
The Meccano and electricity activities gave children the opportunity to explore scientific concepts in a practical and interactive way while developing their skills in assembly, observation, and problem-solving.
Under the auspices of the Latakia Directorate of Awqaf, the Meccano Program is being implemented in the Burj Islam area with the aim of developing students’ basic engineering skills, moving them from theoretical learning to practical application, and encouraging creativity, imagination, and engineering design among students in the first and second cycles of basic education.
🔹 Number of beneficiaries: 100 male and female students
🔹 Number of groups: 5 groups
🔹 Implementation approach: Close follow-up and periodic evaluation are conducted to ensure the program is implemented efficiently and achieves its intended objectives.
In cooperation with the Latakia Directorate of Awqaf, the Meccano Program provides effective educational support to children in the first and second cycles of basic education. The program aims to strengthen essential learning skills, foster curiosity, exploration, and logical thinking, and help children engage positively in the school environment while making sustainable progress in their educational journey.
Mekano Program in the Burj Islam Area, Latakia City (2025–2026)

Electricity Program in the Burj Islam Area, Latakia City (2025–2026)
Sponsored by the Latakia Directorate of Awqaf, the program is implemented in the Burj Islam area to provide the fundamental principles of electricity for first and second الحلقة students. The program aims to develop their scientific and practical skills through hands-on electrical circuit connections and safe experiments that encourage discovery and creative thinking.
🔹 Number of beneficiary students: 50 male and female students
🔹 Number of groups: 3 groups
🔹 Implementation methodology: Careful supervision and continuous follow-up to ensure the quality and safety of practical application.
We aim to introduce children to the basic concepts of electricity in a simplified and easy-to-understand manner that reinforces the theoretical principles they encounter throughout their educational journey.
