Welcome to Sapientia ɛt Eloquentia a bi-weekly selection of lectures, seminars, and talks that show the breadth and depth of Ateneo de Manila's academic and social engagement.

After the holiday season and the anxiety of the Omicron variant, we face 2022 with new hope and energy. Our new year issue features reflections about the coming year, along with discussions on major issues that we continue to face, including the 2022 national elections and our health systems. We have also included two popular Magisterial Lectures: Fr Ben Nebres concludes his two-part lecture on the origin of the universe, and Ambeth Ocampo talks about Dr Jose Rizal. Alongside this, every new issue now features an archive of videos from our previous issues.

Vicente Reventar, part-time lecturer at the Department of Quantitative Methods and Information Technology, uses simulation models to approximate the reality of how the pandemic has disrupted our supply chains. He also discusses the weaknesses in the supply chain that the pandemic has exposed, and asks the question: how do we prepare for the future?

Daily-wage and informal workers bear the struggle of living day-to-day due to the implementation of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). This policy brief emphasizes the importance of not only fighting the virus but food insecurity as well.

Dr Hechanova talks about enabling resilience for those affected by COVID-19, which has brought about a number of mental health concerns, and shares the challenges and prospects for the online delivery of mental health support in the Philippines.

Featuring Archdiocese of Manila's Exorcist, Fr. Jose Francisco Syquia, and Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, this documentary discusses the many questions and issues that surround one of the most controversial subjects in Catholic Faith—the existence of demons and the authenticity of the Rite of Exorcism. True-to-life stories of demonic possession and oppression, among others, are told by the victims themselves, recalling their difficult struggles and how they have overcome their sufferings.
