The Camino Ignaciano is the route that St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, took in 1522 in his quest to become a true servant of God. His journey began in his birthplace in Loyola, Gipuzkoa, and ended in the small town of Manresa, 157 kilometers away from home. Today, the Camino Ignaciano has become a significant pilgrimage route, very much like Camino de Santiago. Pilgrims travel through picturesque mountains, beautiful deserts and wide plains before ending in the town of Manresa, where St. Ignatius underwent a profound spiritual enlightenment that led him to write the essence of his spiritual masterpiece: The Spiritual Exercises.
