The Macayan Award for Benefit to the Local Community is given to the research group which conceptualized ideas that have greatest potential to make an impact in uplifting the livelihood of millions of Filipinos who struggle to get through their day-to-day lives. By putting care for the welfare of all at the center of their research, the group are truly befitting of Fr. Macayan’s legacy in the AHS.

ABOUT FR. MACAYAN
Fr. Prudencio F. Macayan, S.J. was a Jesuit priest who exhibited utmost care for the local community where he served – the Ateneo de Manila High School. Fr. Macayan taught Mathematics in the AHS for 33 years, laying the foundation for the modern Math program that shapes Ateneans today. Aside from his remarkable service to the Math subject area of the high school, he is best remembered for his genuine love and care for his students and the school. He effectively promoted proper waste management by living out a life of the three R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. He pushed tree-planting activities in the high school, and the mahogany trees standing in the football field today bear a plaque honoring his initiative.
