Are we going to follow our regular school schedule for lessons, lunch and breaks?
No. Students will not follow a regular schedule. However, at the beginning of every day you must check the Google Classroom of all the subjects for that day and plan your own timetable to complete the tasks following the teachers’ instructions.
At what time do I have to wake up to start classes?
That depends on each personal and family situation. We recommend you to be ready at 9:30 AM. Advisories on March 24, March 30 and April 6 will take place at 10:00 AM.
Is attendance to virtual advisories or life lessons mandatory? What happens if I cannot attend?
Although attendance to advisories and virtual classes is mandatory, we understand it might be difficult and sometimes impossible to attend a life event depending on personal or family circumstances. If you cannot attend an event, please let the advisor or responsible teacher know in advance.
Should I be working on the computer from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM?
Absolutely not! We estimate you will have enough work for four hours (Grades 6 -10) and a good part of it will not be on the computer. Make sure you take breaks and spread your work nicely.
My internet connection is not very good, is that a problem?
No, it is not. Although recommended, for advisories you do not need to have the camera on. If not even the microphone works, just send a Hangouts message to your advisor to let him/her know.
I can’t guarantee that there is always somewhere in my house where I can speak during live events. Is that a problem?
No, it is not. you can attend a Google Meet, but use the text message tool to send text messages.
I have to share the computer with my brother or sister. What happens if we have events at the same time?
Talk to your parents and ask them for help. They can decide who uses the computer when, depending on the events taking place for both of you, so it is equally shared. If you are going to miss an event, try to contact the teacher or advisor previously via email or Hangouts, or tell him/her later as soon as you can.
My computer is broken, what can I do?
Google Classroom, Gmail and Hangouts are equally accessible from your smartphone. Just make sure you add your school Gmail account (@studentasvalencia) and you access those apps with that account.
I don’t have Google Hangouts or Google Meet, what can I do?
Everybody has those tools. You don’t need to download any of them. They are integrated as part of G-Suite and you can find them in the “waffle” icon (the 9 squares on the top-right corner) in your Chrome browser.
How can I solve my problems accessing or connecting with Hangouts and Meet?
Please contact asvtechnology@asvalencia.org via email. If you are using a smartphone, you must make sure your device is not trying to use your personal account instead of your school account. Switch to your school account in that case.
I need help understanding what to do and when to do it. Who should I contact?
It is OK. This is a new situation for everyone, we understand. Please read the letter from Mr. Frechina slowly, maybe with the help of your parents or older brothers or sisters. Contact your advisor via email or Hangouts and ask him/her anything you need! You can also contact your teachers the same way for more specific questions about a subject.
How will exams be done?
Each teacher will inform students about the different formative assessments.
What are we going to use for conferences?
Google Meet. Please have a look at this guide.
Do I need a computer or is an iPad ok?
You can use Google Chrome, Gmail, Google Classroom, Hangouts and Meet on an iPad. A different issue is what type of work you can produce with an iPad, which is much more limited than a computer. It is important that you contact your teachers about this if problems arise.
