How to Operate & Navigate in Edit Page
Concerning the Edit page tab, you will see two viewers towards the top half of the screen to guide editing. The viewer on the left-hand side is the source view where you can preview the media that you have imported. The viewer on the right-hand side is the timeline viewer where you will see the final product being built in real time. At the bottom of your screen is the Timeline where you build/edit your talking head video by adding media, text, and sound. Place desired media files into the Timeline. To do this, you will need to select media from the “Media Pool”, and then drag necessary media into the Timeline area where desired. Make sure to save your work throughout your time editing (click here to jump ahead to how to save in DaVinci Resolve).
Creating a Bumper
To create a “Bumper”, which is the beginning part of the Timeline that introduces your video, select a media you would like to be a “Bumper” from the Media Pool and place it into the source view. If no video trimming is necessary, then drag from the source view to the Timeline snapping into place.
This video is an example of a "Bumper" to use for the University of Skaro. We encourage you to use this as your bumper for your talking head video.

Editing Raw Media in DaVinci
Editing the “Talking Head”, which refers to the actual portion of you talking to the students and the actual part you want the students to see and watch. Select the “Talking Video” from the media pool and place it into the source view. If no video trimming is necessary, drag from the source view to the Timeline snapping into place behind the bumper. If you have multiple video clips, repeat the last two steps above, which will allow you to continuously snap the video media behind one another. If you do need to trim your raw media, place the media you want to trip in the left viewer “source viewer”. You will need to perform a set of “in” and “out” points in the source viewer. In the source viewer, select the start point in the video clip where you want to start and then click the “mark in” view button. Find the end of the video clip you want to trim to and then click the “mark out” view button. Keyboard shortcuts would be “I” for mark in or “O” for mark out.

Fade to Black

You will see a white handle. Click the handle and drag it to the left. This will create a fade-to-black effect. Preview the effect to make sure the fade to black is how you want it to look in the final cut.
