In this training, we will be focusing on a vital aspect of online learning: instructor presence. Our research shows that instructors with a strong presence in their online courses are statistically more likely to have greater student success and engagement rates.
We aim to equip you with the skills to enhance your presence in both your online courses. We will guide you through creating a module introduction video. These module introduction videos will be embedded into your Canvas courses. They serve as an accessible way to connect with your students, provide your expectations, and give an overview of major assignments and deadlines for the week ahead. It seems simple, but the impact will be priceless.
When we focus on providing our students with support, guidance, and mentoring, we have noticed a direct correlation with better learning outcomes. Students feel seen by their instructor, and this allows them to connect with the course content on a deeper level.
We expect this training module to be completed 100% online and asynchronously. The expected completion time for the entire module is 90 minutes.
Now let's get started!
Learning Goal:
You will be able to create, edit, export, upload, and embed a 5–8 minute module introduction video using DaVinci Resolve, YouTube, and Canvas, following university branding, accessibility, and quality standards to increase student engagement.
At the end of this training, you will be able to:
Demonstrate how to import, organize, and label all media assets according to naming conventions and project-structure guidelines.
Demonstrate how to timeline, trim, arrange, and enhance video clips by adding the branded bumper, title slide, and transitions to produce a cohesive 5-8 minute talking-head sequence.
Demonstrate how to export, upload, and embed your video using the required render settings, YouTube visibility guidelines, and Canvas embedding procedures.
