Why is Editing Important?
Now that you have successfully uploaded and organized your media content, we can begin editing! By editing your video, you can create a polished final product suitable for exporting, uploading to YouTube, and embedding in Canvas. You'll learn more about those steps in Lesson 3!
As we mentioned in the introduction, instructor prescence is important in creating a welcoming online community and fostering student engagement. However, we must be deliberate and purposeful in how we present ourselves. Your introductory video may be the only interaction your student has with you, and setting the appropriate tone is critical. This means your video must be friendly and professional while showing technical competence. A haphazard and poorly edited video may signal to your students that your course will be disorganized as well. To put your best foot forward, an edited, polished video is crucial to your success and that of your students.

When it comes to editing your videos, there are four key aspects we will focus on:
Creating a logical sequence: to ensure a smooth viewing experience
Creating a title slide: to establish the purpose of the video
Trimming clips: to remove any bad takes or extraneous footage
Adding transitions: to add visual effects for student engagement
By focusing on these key elements, you can provide a positive and cohesive viewing experience for your students.
