Spring 2027 Applied Project Offering
Mosquito ecology and environmental biology
Online students will use existing data and/or targeted literature syntheses to address unresolved questions from our research. Current potential projects include:
The chikungunya or the egg? What sets the thermal limits of mosquito-borne disease transmission: the mosquito, the pathogen, or their interaction?
What is the mean, and what does it mean? How are mean temperatures calculated from weather-station observations, particularly in data-limited regions, and how might different temperature metrics affect estimates of thermal safety margins for ectotherms?
Additional projects using existing mosquito ecology, behavior, and environmental datasets may be available!
Students interested in this opportunity are welcome to contact Krijn Paaijmans (Krijn.Paaijmans@asu.edu). When contacting Krijn, please indicate that you are interested in the online opportunity and include a short paragraph (3-5 sentences) about why you are interested in the project/lab as well as how you think the experience could be useful for your career goals. You can also briefly mention any relevant coursework, research, data analysis, or other experience.
