The School of Life Sciences funds many graduate students by hiring them into various positions. Students may be funded differently depending on the program they are enrolled in and their progress within the program. The funding option for SOLS online MS students is the Academic Associates (AA) position. Though AAs do the same work as a TA, the specific funds they receive differ. Please refer to the information below to better understand the position.
Each semester, our office sends an email with a survey for students to fill out to request their specific position. Express your interest in an AA position by completing the survey by the deadline indicated. If there is a course that needs an AA and you are proficient in teaching in that course, you will be notified and asked to submit a job application, which will include a background check.
Summer positions: survey typically sent in February
Fall positions: survey typically sent in July
Spring positions: survey typically sent in October
You must be in Academic Good Standing to be eligible. To be in Academic Good Standing, you must have:
A minimum GPA of 3.0

AA positions are available for online MS students, non-SOLS students, and outside affiliates.
AA positions do not receive any tuition remission or health insurance remission. All AAs must be continuing students and enrolled in their program during the fall and spring semesters. Students are responsible for paying the costs of whatever they enroll in, and they are responsible for paying for health insurance if they enroll in it.
Note: If you are an international student, you will need to provide your I-9 documents in accordance with ASU payroll.
As an AA, students hold a 40% FTE (16 hours per week) position. ASU Policy states that you may not work more than 25 hours per week (62.5% FTE) in all ASU positions combined.
Please contact the SOLS Graduate Office if there are any unresolved conflicts (solsonline.grad@asu.edu).
