Being a teenager is difficult. Everybody makes mistakes, and like Hannah Montana says, everybody has those days. Bad days happen, and what happens before, during, and after coming to Ms. Leighty's room contributes to student behavior. In short, Ms. Leighty's consequences can largely be summed up as such:
- 3 Reminders
- Hallway Discussion
- Parent Contact
- Administrator Supported Behavior Plan
Ms. Leighty is a firm believer in whole child education, but also being up front and consistent with behavior consequences. Most of the time, a student's choices will bring the natural consequences associated with that choice. For example, not completing homework will result in a loss of homework points, as Ms. Leighty can't grade what isn't there.
Failure to meet the classroom expectations will come with three reminders before there needs to be a hallway discussion, and a continued struggle will prompt Ms. Leighty to contact home to see how she can best support student behavior to get them back on track.
Fighting will result in an immediate referral, as is PVHS policy.
Academic dishonesty, like plagiarism, cheating, and use of AI is not tolerated in Ms. Leighty's classroom and will result in zero credit for the given assignment. Continued academic dishonesty will result in a referral.
