Welcome!
In this lesson, you’ll learn three essential editing skills in DaVinci Resolve:
Trimming clips,
Applying clean transitions
Applying edits to final video
These quick techniques help you create a polished introduction video that strengthens your instructor presence.
Lets get started!
In the media pool, right-click and select Import Media.
Select your video files (bumper, intro, talking head).
Select 'Change' if prompted to adjust the frame rate.
Drag each clip into the V1 timeline in the correct order.
To trim:
Hover at the edge of a clip until the trim cursor appears.
Drag inward to shorten the clip.
For precise cuts, use the Blade Tool to remove sections
The trimmed clip updates visually on the timeline
Playback confirms the clip begins and ends cleanly
Unwanted footage is removed and pacing improves
Click the hourglass icon (Transitions Menu).
Find Cross Dissolve under the transitions list.
Use the Go to Next Edit / Previous Edit buttons to move between cuts.
With the edit point selected, double-click Cross Dissolve to apply it.
Add transitions in this exact sequence:
Bumper → (Cross Dissolve) → Title
Title → (Cross Dissolve) → Talking Head
Navigate to the end of your video.
Select Dip to Color Dissolve and double-click to apply a fade to black.
Clips fade smoothly into one another
Transition icons appear at edit points
End of the video fades to black.
5–6 second title after bumper
Talking head 5–8 minutes
Effective and consistent transitions
Clean beginning, middle, and fade-out ending
No technical errors
Meets university visual style specifications
Watch your entire video from start to finish. While watching, answer:
Does every cut feel intentional?
Are there any pacing issues?
Is my title readable and correctly formatted?
Are all transitions consistent?
Does the final fade-to-black play smoothly?
Make at least one revision based on what you observed.
