In May 2023, I attended a Fulton global multicultural experience in Japan for two weeks that focused on using simulation to improve the infrastructure in the Tokyo area. The course was FSE394 and I got to learn valuable skills from Professor Yoshihiro Kobayashi and Professor Jason Bronowitz. Throughout this experience I made many friends and was granted the opportunity to explore the Tokyo area's stunning modern technological advancement.
There was also a lecture component to this class in which we learned about game design in Unity and C#. For the final project, I designed a JR Train terminal that could be optimized for the best foottraffic among departing and arriving passengers along with the most efficient train speeds. This is a key component of the theme of Joy of Living as having smoother transit for passengers can lead to a more efficient city especially in a bustling metropolis like Tokyo.
Although it was only 2 weeks, I found this overall a very meaningful experience. Going to a foreign country alone can seem frightening at first, but after meeting some great people it makes it much easier. This experience fits in well with my theme of Joy of Living as it focuses on impacting the technological world in a way that makes life more efficient and convinient. In the future, I plan on finding projects that relate to improving urban infrastructure by crafting simulations in the computing field.
