The Drone Detection and Recognition team set out to create software to bolster the defenses of Critical Infrastructure around the country against drone surveillance and collisions. The DDR platform provides drone detection software that sends an email warning to the customer when a drone is spotted. The team made this software compatible with industrial computers and is ready to be installed at any critical infrastructure site.

We designed a Secure Boot FPGA system designed to protect hackers from adding and running malicious code during the booting procedure of an FPGA. This helps keep equipment using an FPGA board secure, as the FPGA prevents the system from becoming operational if any code is modified or the right decryption key is not used. Additionally, this is designed to be general purpose, so boards and code can be swapped out with little effort.

Biomedical image data such as high-resolution pathology samples of cancerous tissue can now be captured, digitized, and integrated with other "-omic" data to create rich knowledge about cells and tissues for diagnostic decisions. In this project, a proof of concept solution was built to identify optimal data analysis pipelines and machine learning algorithms for the diagnosis of cancer. The team synthesized datasets, specifically histopathological image data and genomic expression data to train and develop highly accurate machine learning models for the detection of cancer.

Smart Highway of Interconnected Peripherals (SHIP) is a capstone project that aims to create a network of sensors that records weather data, which is then analyzed and fed back to oncoming drivers in the form of hazard notification. The finished products include a sensor module prototype utilizing solar and battery power, networking capabilities, a machine learning-based weather model, and a website that outputs data. The project was conducted by both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science students and mentored by Dr. Yong-Hang Zhang.
