Now that you have created, imported, and edited your video you are almost ready to share it with your class. We will do one last final review of your video to ensure it meets all the requirements and make any minor adjustments. Your final video should have all the required elements of Skaro University: 1) A bumper, 2) A title screen, 3) Your talking head video, and 4) Fades between video elements with a fade to black at the end.
If you’re missing any of these elements, this is a great time to go back to the previous page and follow the instructions before moving on.
Once you’ve met those requirements, you will demonstrate how 1. To do a final walk-through and minor audio adjustments, 2. How to upload or “export” your video from DaVinci to YouTube in preparation for 3. How to embed your video into the desired page on your Canvas course.
Let's get started on a final walk-through of your video. Open your file in DaVinci and watch the video below to help you know what to look for as you are finishing your video in preparation to upload it to YouTube and Canvas. You will learn how to adjust the audio volume and how to use the shortcut keys L (play), K (pause), and J (Rewind) in this video as you review it one last time.
The easiest way to insert a video into your course is from YouTube, so I'll show you how to upload your video directly from DaVinci to YouTube. Watch the video below and pause as needed to follow the steps of up uploading your video to YouTube. One important thing to note is that you will need to save your video with a title that is unique and specific. You will need to copy the exact title to search for it when you insert the video into Canvas.
Now that you have uploaded your video to YouTube, you will need to go to your YouTube account and change the settings on your video. Specifically, you need to select the audience in the video details page as "No, it's not made for kids" in order for your video to be fully available on YouTube. See the steps below for finding your video in your account and changing those settings. You will also need to copy and paste your video title in preparation for embedding it into Canvas.
Quick Tip:
If you are unfamiliar with how to locate your video from your YouTube account, follow these steps:
Step 1: From your Google Gmail page, click the Google Apps icons ( 9 dots in a square) and from the drop down menu, scroll down and select the YouTube icon.
Step 2: From your YouTube home page, you will go to the left side menu and select "Your Videos."
Step 3: You will now see your "Channel content" page. From here, simply double click on the video you wish to insert.
Step 4: From the video details page, you will need to answer the question under "audience" about age restriction before your video is available on YouTube. Select "No, it's not made for kids." Then click "Save."
Step 5: From the same video details page, you can find the video link in the right hand column. Double click to open your YouTube video. You will copy the exact name of your video (not the link) to paste into the search for Canvas.
The last step of sharing your video with your students is to embed your YouTube link into your Canvas course on the page you want students to see it. You've probably inserted YouTube videos into your Canvas course before and this is no different. Be sure you have copied the title (not the link) of your video from YouTube as you will need to paste it into the YouTube search in Canvas. For a quick review, check out my video below. Don't forget to select "student view" after you've finished inserting your video to ensure students see the page as you would like it to look.
