No, only specific degrees are approved for certain master's degrees. The below image shows the SEMTE eligible programs:
You will receive an admissions decision about 2 weeks after grades are due and your core classes are officially complete.
As a current SEMTE student, you can contact your current assigned academic advisor. Each fall and spring semesters, SEMTE hosts Graduate Program information sessions. You can contact your current academic advisor to ask if there's an upcoming session.
Non-SEMTE students (Physics and Chemistry majors):
You can email semte@asu.edu to learn more about the programs and/or to ask if there's an upcoming Graduate Program Information session.
Email your current assigned academic advisor
If you're a non- SEMTE student, then you can email semte@asu.edu.
In your "+1" year or the semester in which you formally start your MS degree, you can add the Semiconductor Processing certificate. There's a separate admissions application to add the certificate. The application has its own fee. Once admitted to the accelerated master's program, you can discuss the certificate further with your assigned 4+1 academic advisor.
Here are some important things to note:
Any 500-level courses taken during your undergraduate career cannot be shared with the certificate. Any required certificate courses must be completed in your "+1" year and can be shared with your MS degree through technical elective. Commonly, to have the greatest opportunity to share credit, doing a non-thesis track is encouraged.
You can find certificate required courses in the following check sheet. These are the courses to avoid taking in your senior year of the accelerated master's program: sites.google.com/asu.edu/semtegraduateresources/semiconductor-processing-certificate/semiconductor-processing-certificate
For more details about the certificate, please review the following link: https://semte.engineering.asu.edu/certificate-in-semiconductor-processing/
Each program has a non-thesis and thesis track (Modern Energy Production and Sustainable Use, MS does not have a thesis track), but some major maps have not been created yet. If you don't see your interested track available, then you can email semte@asu.edu to let us know.
Currently, Materials Science and Engineering, MS is our only program with both a Tempe and ASU Online option.
You can still apply to the program if your GPA is close to a 3.5 ASU cumulative GPA. Admission decisions will be made after grades post for the semester you complete your core courses, so it may still be possible for you to raise your GPA to the 3.5 once those grades are taken into account. You can use the ASU GPA calculator (which you can find here) to get an idea for what grades you will need to earn to increase your cumulative GPA to a 3.5. If you are not admitted, you are welcome to apply for our traditional Master's degree program. You can find traditional MS SEMTE program details here.
We have helpful tips on contacting faculty here. No, recommendations from a MAT, PHY, or HON professor will not be accepted. The 3 recommendation must come SEMTE faculty. We can accept 1 recommendation from a Fulton Engineering Professor, but they must have professor in their title.
You can apply for a Tempe Master's degree program if you anticipate earning a master's degree in person on the Tempe campus for one of our programs available to Mechanical Engineering majors (Aerospace Engineering, MS, Mechanical Engineering, MS, Modern Energy Production and Sustainable Use, MS, Robotics and Autonomous Systems (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering), MS, or Materials Science and Engineering, MS). In the accelerated master's program, while completing your bachelor's degree, your technical electives would be limited to ASU Online MSE 5xx courses. Due to this, you may only be able to do a non-thesis track.
You must contact the advising department of those master's degree programs to learn more. There are only specific SEMTE bachelor's degree programs approved for non-SEMTE master's degree programs.
Non-SEMTE approved MS programs can be found in the links below under, "Accelerated program options":
For non-SEMTE MS programs found on the above sites, you must reach out to those specific advising departments to learn more. If you end up pursuing an accelerated master's program outside of a SEMTE MS degree, you must contact your current assigned SEMTE academic advisor to let them know.
