Experiential Learning Activity: “Public Narrative” Part 1
Sandy Dang, Co-founder and Principal of CoInnovate Consulting
The COVID-19 pandemic has overwhelmed many of us with its uncertainty and forced us to adapt to the new “normal.” More than ever, we need leaders who can convey hope instead of despair, agency instead of self-doubt, and solidarity instead of isolation. In addition, as we’ve pivoted toward remote learning and remote work, leaders must learn how to build trust with their team members to strengthen morale and increase productivity. That is why this is even more critical to learn how to exercise leadership through narrative; to tell stories that inspire others to work toward a shared goal. Public Narrative is the art of telling stories that inspire and motivate people to achieve a collective goal. An effective leadership story conveys shared values, collective agency and hope for the future.
