Class of 2028 Forecasting

Hello, Class of 2028!

In just a few short months, you will begin the process of finishing your eighth-grade year and beginning a new chapter in your lives -- HIGH SCHOOL!  Soon we will be sharing more information and tips for success with you about the transition to Astoria High School, but before we do that we have some business to take care of!

In order to prepare you for your freshmen year of high school, we need to know what kind of classes you're interested in taking. Freshmen at AHS take five required classes each semester:  English, Math, Science, PE, Freshmen Trans (one semester) and Health (one semester).  The other two classes each semester are up to you to choose.  These two classes are called "Electives".

The first part of building your freshmen year schedule is to tell us what kind of classes you are interested in taking for your PE class and your electives.  Please consider this choice carefully -- we may not be able to make changes in the fall, so it's important that you spend some time researching your options and learning about each class.

Follow the directions and let us know if you have any questions.  We look forward to welcoming you to AHS in the fall!

Sincerely,
AHS Student Services Staff,
Andrew Fick, Beth Frausto, & Meredith Payton

STEP ONE:  Review the forecast slideshow

This slideshow was presented to 8th graders on Tuesday, April 30.  Students can review it to learn about how credits work, which classes freshmen take, and which electives are offered to freshmen.  It might be helpful for students to jot down some courses that look interesting to remind them to read more about them later.

STEP TWO:  Find out more about the courses.

There are many elective courses that are available to 9th graders at AHS.  It's important that students understand what each course is about and whether or not it's a good fit for their interests.

STEP THREE:  Forecast for next year's classes

Students will communicate which classes they want to take through StudentVUE.  Students must fill all the elective options and alternates because some classes might not be offered, or fill up, and we need to know what students are willing to take.  Instructions about how to complete forecasting are available by watching this video.  If a student does not know how to access their StudentVUE account, they should call or visit the main office at Astoria Middle School.

Forecasting is due by Friday, May 10th!

Once students lock in their forecasting, they won't be able to make any changes in StudentVUE.  However, if a student would like to make changes, they can email anyone listed below to help them.
We know that this process might be confusing, and we would like to answer any questions students and parents might have.

Please email any of the Student Services Staff at AHS if you have questions or need assistance:
