FORECASTING FAQ

Q: Do I really have to forecast for 5 alternates?

A: Yes, and students are actually encouraged to choose more than 5 alternates. Counselors do most of the scheduling in the summer when they don't have access to speak with students. If a class is not offered, or there is a scheduling conflict, the counselors must select an alternate. Having options that students have indicated they are willing to take is beneficial for both students and counselors.

Q: I failed classes and need to recover the credit. How do I forecast for this?

A: If you know the specific class you need to retake (ex. Global Students first semester) you can forecast for it through StudentVUE (Global Studies A) just like you would an elective. You can also talk to a counselor and forecast with their help.

Q: I want to take an Honors course. Do I need approval from a teacher before I forecast for it?

A: Students can forecast for Honors classes without pre-approval from teachers. If students have questions about honors courses and whether or not they would be a good fit, they can talk with a counselor or one of their current teachers.

Q: I want a senior open next year, how do I forecast for it?

A: Seniors can forecast for up to two senior opens each semester, for a total of four for the year. The course can be found under "Sr Open".

Q: I want to be a Teacher Assistant next year. How do I forecast for it?

A: Teacher Assistant is not a class that can be forecasted for, but this is a change that can be made in the fall once the schedule has been set and teachers can determine whether or not they need a TA.

Q: I want to forecast for a course that's not showing up in StudentVUE. What do I do?

A: If a course is not showing up, it might mean that it's not open to students in your grade level. Check the course descriptions to see if you are eligible to take it. If you are, please email a counselor to find out why it's not showing up. There are also several classes that you can't forecast for, which include Teacher Assistant, Counseling Assistant, Office Assistant, Library Assistant, Work Experience, Cadet Teaching, and Senior Open. Those classes will be scheduled in the fall during registration. You will need to forecast for other electives at this time and we will swap the courses out in the fall.

Q: I am a parent or guardian. How do I know what my child forecasted for?

A: Your child's forecasting should be viewable in ParentVUE, however only a student can make changes to their course requests. If you need access to ParentVUE, please contact Tami Jones: tjones@astoria.k12.or.us.
