Debunking AAPI Stereotypes

Group members: Ben Quach, Jeff Ho, Megan Tran, Yimeng Gao

The project we created covers the topics of stereotypes and their flaws with them, including the model minority myth, the lack of knowledge on wealth gap, the sexualization of AAPI women and the idea that AAPI people aren’t athletic. By talking about these stereotypes and talking about their flaws, we are both able to spread awareness about these issues and explain why these stereotypes shouldn’t be spread. We hope to be able to share this online with other teens around our age, along with adults who may still have these misconceptions. We created a video, in which each person took a section to cover, did research on the truth behind that stereotype and how it has harmed the community, along with possibly other communities. One of our group members worked to help us edit the piece together into a single 20 minute video for people to watch.
