We introduce you to Talking 'Bout Mental Health, a podcast revolving around the significance of mental health and the various perspectives of others "talking 'bout" their own stance on this topic. The podcast we created discusses mental health, specifically in the Pan-Asian community. Being minorities ourselves, we want to share our own standpoints and personal experiences on this issue through this podcast. Our objective is to open up the topic of mental health in our community and normalize conversations about it. Our podcast aims to inform our primary audience, Asian-American teenagers, about mental health, specifically regarding the impact of this issue within minority families. It is often a topic that is avoided by some people, but should be talked about more often than it is. Through this podcast, we're hoping to bring light to this little-known, but prominent topic.
Our podcast addresses many topics that include:
the definition of mental health
the effects of keeping a good mental health
how mental health affects Pan-Asians
possible reasons why mental health isn't such a commonly-discussed topic
where Pan-Asians seek help for their mental health issues
ways we can support others who are dealing with unstable/poor mental health
personal experiences involving mental health
our own sentiments on mental health in general
Throughout this podcast, we have organized our project into a specific format that we hope is most efficient for the audience. We first help familiarize the definition of mental health and introduce examples of what poor/positive mental health may look like. Then, we provide interviews from our friends and family allowing the audience to view different perspectives on the topic of mental health. We hope that by listening to a variety of standpoints, your knowledge on how mental health impacts others will expand and you will be able to spread awareness about this very important topic!
Thank you to CBCAC/ASM program and all the instructors (Ilona Huang, Darek Lau and Eva Nip) for supporting and providing exceptional guidance for us throughout the making of this project! And, special thanks to Mental Health Savvy for featuring our podcast on their website!
