Our project is about arthropods and how habitats impact what varieties and quantities of insects live in each environment around NEIU. We were trying to learn if there were considerable differences in the populations and the diversity of insects depending on the environment that they were located in, despite similarities in species of plants and types across environments. Contributing to this project is relatively easy, one must just record arthropods that they find by sweep netting, hand collection, or any other method that they may use along with the location that they found them in, as well as a general classification of the environment that they were collected in. We went into this project with the intent to answer the following questions:
Which arthropods are found commonly in multiple habitats?
Which arthropods are more restricted to certain habitats than others?
Do certain habitats have innately greater biodiversity than others?
Are there any insects that are indicative of certain environmental conditions?
