Dear Parents,
It's hard to believe that the busy month of May is over. June will continue to be busy, but we are all beginning to sense that summer is just around the corner. As the days heat up, we are also reminding students to use their water bottles and keep them topped off. Hydration is especially important to keep the students alert and ready to learn.
MAP make-up testing concludes on Friday, May 28. The students scores will be sent home in a special email to parents on Friday, June 5.
On Tuesday, May 26, the Policia Nacional de Pozuelo visited ASM to speak with our grade 8 students in a morning assembly. The representatives from the Policia Nacional spoke with the students about online behaviors, cyberbullying, and their responsibilities as young people. We are pleased to be able to offer these important learning opportunities with our local officials.
Grade 8 students and parents are looking forward to the "Cornerstone Projects". Grade 8 students will deliver their reflections on their growth in Middle School in presentations during the week of June 1 and June 8. We are looking forward to welcoming our grade 8 parents to these presentations.
Parents, please note that the final day for ASAs and sports is Friday, May 29. Beginning on June 1, all students must depart campus by 4:00. Parents, we kindly ask that your child is picked up no later than 4:00. The staff will be busy preparing for the final weeks of school at this time. Students who need to meet with their teachers for extra help may continue to do so from 4:00-5:00 during their teachers' regular office hours.
Please mark your calendar for the Middle School "Engineering Fair" on Friday, June 12 from 2:35-3:50. The science teachers are preparing the students for this annual event and will soon send home more information about the fair.
Please note that all items left in the lost and found will be donated to charity on June 19. We will have special tables outside of the main entrance to the Middle School building beginning on June 8. There students and parents will find items that have been found and on claimed. Parents and students may check for lost items at any time during the day between June 8-18.
Finally, our grade 8 students are looking forward to the "Step Up" program on Thursday, June 18 at 10:30-12:00. Grade 8 parents have received a special invitation to attend this program as their sons and daughters will receive a special Middle School certificate that highlights their completion of their Middle School studies. Parents, please note that dismissal takes place at 12:30 PM on this day.

Absence Reminder
As a reminder, parents, please let us know at least two days in advance if you plan on taking your child out of school early for vacation. You can email our attendance clerk at msattendance@asmadrid.es. I also want to repeat the importance of planning vacations around our published school calendar. Every day of school counts, and it is often difficult for students to catch up with their learning when they are absent from school.

THE PULSE! READ ALL ABOUT IT!
The Middle School communicates important information to students through the MS Lancer Pulse. Students are asked each week to read the announcements in "The Pulse" during advisory time.
AFTER-SCHOOL SUPPORT: BUILDING STUDENT SELF-ADVOCACY
Helping students learn the art of self-advocacy and taking responsibility for their own learning is essential for their growth and success. We encourage students to take charge by seeking extra help when needed. Our after-school extended learning labs and teacher office hours provide excellent opportunities for students to demonstrate this responsibility and get the support they need. Please read this document for more information about after-school support.
ATTENDANCE AT AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Our students have been reminded that they must attend their after-school activity. We have noticed that some students have chosen to skip their ASA. The ASA sponsors take attendance, and parents will be contacted if their child does not attend the ASA regularly.
AFTER-SCHOOL PROCEDURES
Parents and students should be familiar with our MS After-school Procedures. Please ask the Middle School Director if you have any questions about these procedures. Please also note that students must leave campus after their ASA, sport, or private music lesson is completed. Students are not allowed to remain on campus unsupervised. We ask that parents make arrangements to pick up their children as soon as the activity ends.

BIRTHDAY SNACKS IN MS
Students are welcome to bring in a snack to share with their advisory to celebrate their birthdays. We ask that students not bring in snacks to share with their friends, as this can lead to students feeling left out or food frenzies during break and lunch times. Parents are kindly reminded not to bring surprise treats to their children during the school day, including at lunch time.
PUNCTUALITY IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL
Punctuality is very important in the Middle School. We kindly ask that parents drop their students off at no later than 8:45 A.M. This allows the students plenty of time to walk from their car to the MS building, pick up their materials from their lockers, and move on to their first class.
