The Smart Assurance process describes the connection of the Risk-Based Assurance approach with oversight activities supported by Remote Sensing and at a further stage UAV technologies. The Smart Assurance process follows the cycle outlined in the figure below. Please refer to the ASI Risk-Based Assurance and Oversight procedures for further information.
Risks may be identified through different methods and sources. After evaluation and analysis, risks should seek to be translated into strategies using the analysis of data. The Smart Assurance Guidance focuses on applying Remote Sensing analysis as a strategy to scope risks and as a technology to evaluate areas of interest.
By integrating remote sensing technologies into a risk-based assurance process, organizations can increase situational awareness, improve decision-making, and minimize the impact of uncertainty and disruption. This Smart Assurance Guidance is focused on the risk of deforestation, but the process can be scalable/replicable to other sustainability risks such as environment impact evaluation, illegal activities monitoring, and supply chain practices, to mention some.
