Assurance Services Any and all independent and impartial Assessments or other relevant activities that ensure the integrity of the Scheme Owner’s systems and their claims.

Assessment A process undertaken to determine the competence of a Conformity Assessment Body based on applicable Requirements, standard(s), and/or other normative documents including the Conformity Assessment Body’s own documented system for a defined Scope of Accreditation.

Risk Based Assurance A process undertaken to assure the credibility of Voluntary Sustainability Systems (VSS) and to create and protect its value. The risk based assurance process is developed by putting risk management at the center of operations to ensure that opportunities are well balanced against potential negative impacts.

Response Mechanism Refers to the Assurance body actions in response to insights obtained during the Smart Assurance process that are part of oversight and integrity activities

Remote sensing Remote sensing refers to the analysis of satellite images, aerial photography, and drone imagery allowing for rapid analysis of extensive areas (eg. to detect deforestation).
