Brown County Hazardous Material Recovery Facility and Transfer Station ~ 2561 S. Broadway Street ~ Green Bay, Wisconsin
Many materials are hazardous (dangerous) to the environment and to people. They should not be thrown in your garbage and can be recycled instead. These materials are brought to the Hazardous Material Center so they do not end up in the landfills. Some of these products are paint, gasoline, cleaning supplies, batteries, light bulbs, and computers.
If the hazardous materials can be still used by other people they are put in the product exchange room. Two times a week people can come here to find products they can re-use in their homes.
Products that can't be re-used by other people are brought to the sorting area. Here they are sorted based on what kind of material they are. The workers need to know which products need to stay separate so they do not mix together and cause explosions.
After the products are sorted they are brought to the bulking room. The products are dumped into big drums. These drums are picked up and brought to a place that burns the materials.
All the products are then picked up by trucks. Some of the drums are filled with computers and other electronics. Others are filled with paint, batteries, or chemicals.

Did you know that the average U.S. household generates up to 20 pounds of household hazardous waste each year?
After your recyclables are picked up from your house by the recycling truck they are brought to the Brown County Recycling Transfer Station.
From here they are loaded onto big trucks and brought to the Outagamie Recycling Center in Little Chute. There they are sorted and prepared to be sent to places where the materials are recycled.
