"The National Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of
scholarship, service, leadership, and character"
Ashland High School has had a charter with NHS since 1959, when it established the Socios Chapter of NHS.
Students are encouraged, from the beginning of freshman year, to maintain high academic achievement in order to be eligible for selection to NHS in their junior or senior years of high school (see Selection Process).
The colors selected by the national office to represent National Honor Society are blue and gold.
Meetings are typically held at 7:50 a.m. on the first Thursday of every month in the auditorium
Donations for the Ashland Food Pantry are collected at meetings
Members must complete at least 2 participation credits for each year that they are part of NHS
A GPA of 3.5 or higher must be maintained
Five (5) hours of community service must be completed within each term
Members are expected to demonstrate leadership and good character at all times.

At each meeting students are requested to bring a community service item which is donated to the Ashland Food Pantry. The Vice-President of NHS works closely with the Food Pantry in order to arrange for needed items to be brought in.
