Starting with a pilot group in the fall of 2026, faculty and staff will begin the transition to Macbook laptops.
Faculty, administrators, and most full-time staff will use Macbook Airs; part-time staff, subs, coaches, and support staff will use Macbook Neos.
Starting with a Lower School pilot in the fall of 2026 and 5th and 9th grade in the 2027-28 school year, students will begin the transition to school-managed Macbook laptops.
2nd to 8th graders will use Macbook Neos; 9th to 12th graders will use Macbook Airs.
We are thrilled to introduce the newest addition to your teaching toolkit: the MacBook. You need hardware that truly supports your teaching. Based on your feedback from the recent Faculty Technology Survey, we heard loud and clear that battery life, system reliability, and classroom mobility were your top priorities.
The move to Apple is more than just a hardware refresh; it is a pedagogical shift designed to make your day smoother, more efficient, and untethered. Here is why we are excited about this transition—and why we think you will be, too!
1. The Untethered Classroom
You are no longer tied to your desk by a charging cable or USB-C cord. With an incredibly thin design (just half an inch thick and weighing only 2.7 pounds), the MacBook Air is designed to move with you. With native Apple AirPlay, you can seamlessly cast your screen directly to your interactive panel while walking the room. And, no more mid-period panics looking for an outlet. With up to 18 hours of battery life, your MacBook Air is built to easily survive the entire school day—from morning carpool duty through afterschool meetings—on a single charge.
2. Blazing Fast & Silent Performance
We know you often have 30 Chrome tabs, several applications, and a virtual meeting open simultaneously. Powered by the incredible new M5 chip and its Neural Engine, the MacBook Air delivers blazing-fast performance. You will experience seamless switching between loads of apps and tabs without the lagging, crashing, or overheating you may have experienced in the past. Best of all? It features a fanless design, meaning it runs completely silent.
3. A Seamless Tech Ecosystem
Almost 90% of our faculty and staff already use iPhones or Macs in their personal lives, making this transition a natural next step! Moving forward, we will also transition our students over to managed MacBooks and iPads. With a unified Apple environment, you'll have a seamless classroom experience, advanced lockdown features, and greater control and visibility over student devices to keep everyone on task and engaged.
5. Sustainable & Built to Last
Your new device isn’t just powerful; it is responsible. The MacBook Air is made with over 50 percent recycled materials. It features a durable, recycled aluminum enclosure built specifically to withstand the daily bumps and bruises of a busy school environment. MacBooks also typically last 6 years even in a classroom environment; almost twice as long as our current PCs! They will also come equipped with AppleCare+ advanced warranties.
6. Built for Innovation & Professional Growth
Macs are renowned for being incredibly intuitive and user-friendly. To support your transition, Apple provides phenomenal professional development resources—like the Apple Teacher program—designed specifically for educators. This transition isn't just about new hardware; it is a fantastic, school-wide opportunity for all of us to grow our technology skill sets, innovate our daily pedagogy, and learn together!
We know change can take some adjusting, which is why we have built a comprehensive support system—including a variety of training opportunities, migration overlap, localized Apple Ambassadors, and the Mac Manual—to ensure you feel confident and ready to teach from day one!
