The forecast was a KP index of 8 ! So I got packed and set off to Broemmelsiek Park before sundown. Some auroral "clouds" but no activity until just before 8 PM and it lasted maybe 10 minutes. I was glad that I brought my 10" dob to keep myself and others entertained during lulls. The "cloud" continued to obstruct views of dimmer stars on the Northern half of the sky but activity lulled until about 9:05 when it kicked up nicely for another 10-15 minutes. When the next lull kept on until 11 PM I packed out (and I later heard it was very active yet again at 11:30 PM).
This aurora was great - but a mini version of the May aurora. It extended a bit beyond the zenith but not near the Southern horizon like May. It was active with arcs and pillars/spikes, but not as many nor as frequent. Harder to see (more averted vision) and needed more camera 'help' to confirm activity where it was suspected. About 500 at Broemmelsiek Park that night, per SCCP counts.
