I managed to observe this comet on a surprisingly clear New Year's eve-ning after a family get-together. I did manage to pack my 25x100s just in case. Not only did I bag the comet, but I got a nice view of the near conjunction of Mars and Neptune in the binos.
The comet was smaller and dimmer than I had expected for so near perihelion. I expect it to get larger as it nears Earth in a few weeks.
It was "just" barely visible in 10x50's also, but hard to I.D. as a comet as it was fairly star-like.
