Hi! Welcome to our IM Math 6 class. My name is Sarah Fineman, and I'm thrilled to travel this math journey with you and your family. I love teaching math and look forward to lots of learning and fun this year.
This year will bring new learning, new challenges, and lots of math thinking and fun for us all. I encourage you to take some time to explore the resources here to support your understanding of IM Math 6 and how it develops your child's math thinking and problem-solving.
Practice, Quiz, and Test + Corrections:
Practice problems will be assigned most nights and are an important part of mastering the math material. We usually have about 20+ minutes to work on the practice problems in class. This should give your child a good chance to begin work with me and have their questions answered. If they use their time in class, they should finish or only have a few problems to do at home. Answer keys for these problems are posted in our math Canvas. Please have your child check their answers; they should take the time to understand their mistakes and correct them. Please also feel free to assist with these corrections. For homework, watching the videos available on THIS page may be helpful.
In IM Math, tests are given at the middle and end of most units. Quizzes are given more frequently. Corrections are accepted for 1/2 credit. They can be done on THIS correction paper, or any paper if done with explainations of the mistakes. Test corrections are done only for problems missed. Problems must be completely redone, explained, and the mistake must be noted (careless, computational, or conceptual). Corrections should be stapled to the original test. Corrections can be done at home, during in-class work time, or during lunch math club. Please feel free to assist with test corrections. At the test correction point, it is time to lend a hand and advice.
Math Supplies: I will provide a folder and workbooks. A few pencils for our classroom would be nice if you are willing.
