Multi-age
In a multi-age classroom, children of different ages interact and work collaboratively, just like in real life. Fifth-grade students are elders and often have a year of experience in my classroom, so they help set the tone, behavior, and the expected academic standard for the younger students. Though the fourth graders are younger, I strive to create a mutual mentor/mentee relationship between youngers and elders with each taking on these different roles at different times.
This multi-age approach allows me to teach and model leadership through respect, not just age. Multi-age classes provide a diverse spectrum of learners and a two-year experience that will enable teachers, students, and family members to bond, creating a stronger community and a trusted learning partnership. I believe in working cooperatively, and I emphasize collaboration over competition. When competition occurs, I strive to make it inclusive and to challenge oneself.
I'm a proud member of House Honradez, but I see the joy, passion, and enthusiasm in all our houses.
