Sports Update
The Hanshew baseball team finished its season September 24 with a double-header split against Goldenview and Mears. The Hawks opened with a 5-4 win over Goldenview in a game that featured many players familiar with each other from time spent in Abbott-O-Rabbit Little League. Hanshew finished the season 9-2 and highlights included two games at Mulcahy Stadium.
The Hanshew Hawks Girls Basketball team finished the month 3-1, beating Central 40-24, Begich 32-9 and Romig 34-17 and falling to Mears 45-37. The Hawks will finish the season with jamborees scheduled for October 1 and October 8.

National Bully Prevention Awareness Month
The goal: encourage schools, communities and organizations to work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying and put an end to hatred and racism by increasing awareness of the prevalence and impact of all forms of bullying on all children of all ages.
The first Monday of every October is World Day of Bullying Prevention! This year it’s October 3rd. On this day students, schools, and communities all over the world go BLUE together against bullying. It also kicks off National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month every October. Wear blue on Mondays in October to show support for bullying prevention & awareness!
Greetings! We are getting back to normal but Covid is still out there, and we still need to be careful about washing hands, not being in crowded areas, masking when ill and being vaccinated. The new booster has protection for the different types of COVID and I strongly encourage getting vaccinated and getting your boosters!
Hanshew will be hosting a FLU CLINIC on October 26th from 1-7p, as will all other ASD middle schools. All ASD high schools will be open for flu vaccines on October 27th from 1-7p. Clinics are open to the public. Please consider getting you and your family vaccinated for the flu; there are many types of flu circulating, and it is expected to be a very strong flu season due to people masking and distancing last year, limiting their exposure.
I have started screening 7th grade students for vision, hearing, height and weight. If your student fails vision or hearing, you will receive a call from me. If anyone is in need of a free optical exam and glasses due to lack of insurance or funds, please let me know.
Call anytime with concerns or questions, I am here at Hanshew from 7:30a-3p.

Open check-out is all day, so stop in and check out some books to enjoy during these cool fall days. Battle of the Books will start October 17th and will meet Mondays & Wednesdays during lunch in the library.
Students need to bring Chromebooks every day to classes. Students who need an ASD Chromebook device can stop by the library any time to check one out. I can also help students with login, password, network, and other technology issues.
I will not be loaning out chargers or devices to students who forget theirs, so please remind your student to keep track of their charger and device. I recommend charging devices at home to avoid losing or mixing up chargers with other students.
The library is open most days at lunch. Students must have a library lunch pass to attend and need to eat lunch in the MPR first. Happy Reading!
MIGRANT EDUCATION
I am so excited to have a club approved with an after-school focus. I will be sponsoring the Migrant Club for only Migrant Education Program (MEP) qualified students and their families in room 224. End time for students for every activity will be 3:45PM. We will then move to the front entrance where I will supervise pickup of students and meet with parents until 4:00PM.
Homework help will be provided for up to 20 students at a time with a certified teacher on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8/31/22-5/17/23.
Potlucks are initially scheduled for 3:00PM until 3:45PM on 9/30/22 and 10/31/22.
An end-of-semester family ice fishing celebration is being planned for Lake Taku (or possibly Campbell Point) between Thanksgiving and Winter Break. I will attempt to have my Service HS (and/or alternative HS program) MEP SSCs present to address transition concerns.
Sincerely,
